Welcome to Grade 9 and 10 Pre Advanced Placement English!
Students who choose ENL1WE and ENG2DP are interested in developing strong critical thinking, argumentation, and language skills. Successful students will progress to ENG3UP and ENG4UP, where they will be directly prepared for the AP Literature and AP Language exams.
Please note that we use the term “pre-AP” because there is no formal AP exam administered by the College Board in Grades 9 and 10. These years are designed to build the skills and habits students need for success in Grades 11 and 12, when AP exams are offered.
In addition to fulfilling the requirements of the Grade 9 Destreamed English or Grade 10 Academic English curriculum, students will complete three additional assignments as part of their AP Portfolio. Students may choose to have the average of these assignments added to their final course mark. While optional, students are strongly encouraged to complete all portfolio assignments to maximize both their learning and their preparation for senior-level AP courses.
These assignments are designed to challenge students at an Advanced Placement level. Please see below for sample assignments that demonstrate the academic rigour students can expect.
